About our Clean Water Project

In May of 2009 the Mehadi Foundation, in cooperation with the Iraq & American Reconciliation Project, Veterans for Peace and Muslim Peacemaker Teams, provided one public school in Najaf with a 3-stage water purifier to clean the school's primary source of drinking water. In addition to the filtration system, which was obtained through a local Iraqi supplier, the school will be provided with enough filters to last six months.

This initiative, spearheaded by the Iraq Water Project after the Persian Gulf War in 1991, has been successful in reaching out to over 10 schools since 2003, when the current Iraq War began. Despite these noble efforts, an astounding 500 schools in Najaf still desperately need clean water. The Mehadi Foundation will continue to direct funding to this project to meet this need, with the hope of placing another water filter in four schools in Iraq before the end of the next school year.
